Safety First: Best Blepharoplasty Practices
As I explained in my previous blog post, eyelid changes are often the firstmanifestation of aging. For this reason, many of our blepharoplasty patients at Weston Plastic Surgery do not have any experience with cosmetic surgery. These patients may be fearful of the unknown with concerns about pain, swelling, and anesthesia. However, eyelid surgery is actually one of the easiest plastic surgery procedures for the patient, as it is associated with minimal to no pain.
Although eyelid surgery is one of the simplest cosmetic surgeries that a board-certified plastic surgeon can perform, as with any surgery, there are still associated risks. For this reason, I perform eyelid surgeries in an operating room rather than an office. An operating room is better equipped to handle any complications that may arise, and it provides an added degree of safety for the patient – which is one of our top priorities. In the operating room, I have the best access to anesthesia, equipment, lighting, and assistance. As a result, I am able to keep the blepharoplasty operation as simple and safe as possible.
In the end, blepharoplasty is often considered a “gateway” cosmetic surgery. Following the procedure – which has predictable and effective results – patients frequently see that their fears were unwarranted, and they feel more comfortable considering other types of elective surgical procedures in the future, such as a brow lift or facelift.
